It is the site about my town Dudinka, where I''ve been living since 1990, and its neighbourhood

Dudinka (Russian: Дуди́нка) is a town in Krasnoyarsk Krai (region) in the north of Russian Siberia. The peninsula of Taimyr where the town stands is washed by the Arctic Ocean. Dudinka was the administrative center of Taymyr Dolgan-Nenetsts Autonomous Okrug( region), which was merged into Krasnoyarsk Krai on January 1, 2007. It is a port in the lower reaches of the Yenisei River, accessible to sea-going ships. Dudinka was founded in 1667 as a winter settlement, and was granted town status in 1951. Dudinka processes cargo for and sends it to the Norilsk Mining and Smelting Factory and ships non-ferrous metals, coal and ore. In 1969, the Messoyakha-Dudinka-Norilsk natural gas pipeline was laid. In 2001, Dudinka was declared a closed city, with travel restricted for foreigners, and travel permits required for Russian visitors, as well. There are 8 secondary schools, several kindergartens, several universities branches, 3 museums, 1 cinema, 3 libraries, 1 sport school, and Art and Dance School. Population: 25,132 (2002 Census). It is served by Dudinka Airport. The other nearest airports are Alikel (about 60 km far) and Norilsk Valek Airfield. Dudinka has its own internet forum loved by the youngsters. Its address is http://www.masterra.ru/ You get into it through the site of Dudinka. The entrance to MasTerra is down that page. One can join Masterra forum wherever she/he lives. Norilsk (Russian: Нори́льск) got a city status in 1953. It is the most northern city in Siberia and the world's second largest city after Murmansk in the Arctic Circle. Norilsk is the northernmost city with the population over 100,000 on the planet. Population: 133,436 (2004 est.); 134,832 (2002 Census). Norilsk Nickel, a mining company, is the principal employer in the Norilsk area. The city is served by Norilsk Alykel Airport and Norilsk Valek Airfield. The official date of foundation is traditionally set to 1935 when Norilsk was expanded as a settlement for the Norilsk mining-metallurgic complex and became the centre of the Norillag system of GULAG labor camps. It was granted the status of urban settlement in 1939. Norilsk, located between the West Siberian Plain and Central Siberian Plateau at the foot of the 1,700-metre-high Putoran Mountains, is situated on some of the largest nickel deposits on Earth. Consequently, mining and smelting ore are the major industries. Norilsk is the center of a region where nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium, and coal are mined. To support the new city with the goods and foodstuff a railway to port Dudinka on the Yenisei River was built. It had taken a week and even more to get from Dudinka to Norilsk by a usual road before the railway was constructed. From the port of Dudinka enriched nickel and copper are transported by sea to European Russia. Dudinka port is closed and dismantled during spring's ice barrier floods of up to 20m in late May- beginning of June. Areas that researchers have declared the most polluted in the world are typically little known even in their own countries. Yet they in total afflict more than 10 million people, experts reported today. The kinds of pollution in these areas not only lead to cancers, birth defects, mental retardation and life expectancies approaching medieval levels, but are also often found all around the globe. Due to the intense mining, the city is one of the 10 most polluted cities in the world. Norilsk in Russia houses the world's largest heavy metals smelting complex. The Great Arctic State Nature Reserve is the largest nature reserve of Russia and the whole Europe. The main goal of the Nature Reserve`s foundation is the protection of habitat of the nesting birds, migrating by the north Atlantic way (brent goose Branta bernicla, a lot of sandpipers Limicolae and other species). A significant role in the creation of the Nature Reserve was played by the WWF and the National Park “Schleswig-Holstein Wattenmeer” (where passage and winter stay habitats of these species are protected). Thanks to their support project works were implemented in 1989-1993. The Great Arctic State Nature Reserve receives tourists on a commercial basis. The total area of the Great Arctic Nature Reserve is 4 169 222 ha, of which 980 934 ha is a water area. Owing to its cluster structure it covers the land territory which is 1000 km long from west to east and 500 km long from north to south. and has several organized tourist routes in the protected area.
